Designed to be the easy transition from pilots transitioning from a standard aircraft trainer to a sophisticated complex aircraft with controllable pitch propeller. It maintains comparable handling qualities to other Piper aircraft and provides the pilot more performance for a shorter flight duration or the capability to handle a larger load at longer distances.
